After the liberation war, people, were free to choose their own educational advancement. Since Bangladesh was and still a secular state, different forms of education is seen to co-exist in our Motherland. This write up is basically written over the English Medium culture in our country. The British system was, and still is, largely practiced in the context of education in here. In fact, presently, the education system in Bangladesh is divided into three different categories. Students are free to choose anyone of them provided that they have the means regarding their career.
These branches are:
a) The English Medium b) The Bengali Medium, and c) The Religious Branch.
The British rule is still very influential and noteworthy in the Indian subcontinent, English is used as the second official language of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, etc after the own respective mother tongue independently. Students in Bangladesh also have the right to attend the schools following, English medium curriculum where courses are all taught in English using English textbooks of foreign writers following the educational system of UK and USA commonly with the deviation of the Bengali courses and the Religious course which are offered in Bengali and Arabic for primary knowledge for the students in the primary as well as in the secondary giving importance and priority for civil development of a country-citizen. However, English medium schools are mainly privately owned and thus reserved for the wealthy class or the upper middle class. After the years of preschool, students must successfully pass through ten grades to be eligible for writing the Ordinary Level Exams, also called the O-Levels. Then after two more year of studies, students can sit for the Advanced Level (A-Level) Examination through the consequent of EDEXCEL and CAMBRIDGE board from UK or the International Baccalaureate (IB) board of USA. All these routines are offered for Arts to Science students and the school medium schools are building the students in the way to prepare the talents for those sorts of foreign board examination. The O-Levels and A-Levels are both prepared in England and are common to other countries in the world at the same time with the same dignity. To write in these exams, students must go to the British Council HQ in Dhaka via their schools or solely for ensuring the registration of the examinations and they organize exams for the student to distinctive venues. Once the exams are written, they are sealed in envelopes and are sent to England or Usa for corrections and result publication through their websites. After the Advanced-Level, students are free to choose their subjects in the universities but most of them tends to leave the country for attaining higher education abroad. Foreign Universities, accepts these English Medium certificates with contentment for admission approval with individual grade requirements for different University. The IB curriculum in the context of Bangladesh is rather expensive and is the only reach for the wealthy families in Bangladesh, most IB schools in the country have foreign faculties and staffs creating a different environment in the schooling system for the student enrichment.
